2 Sentenced for Life for Killing Former Manipur Minister's Daughter

IMPHAL: Two people were sentenced to life in jail on Monday by a sessions court in Imphal for kidnapping and murdering the eight-year-old daughter of the then-Manipur minister Ngajokpa in 2003.

On December 28, 2007, the CBI filed a charge sheet against Letkhosei Haokip, Ningombam Rome Meitei, and two others.

Meitei and Haokip were given life sentences by the Session Court in Imphal (East). According to officials, the other two defendants named in the charge sheet passed away during the trial.

On March 29, 2004, the Manipur government requested that the CBI take up the investigation into the matter. The matter was previously looked into by the local police for possible unidentified offenders.

According to a CBI spokeswoman, "Miss Lungnila Elizabeth (aged 8 years), daughter of Francis Ngajokpa, then minister in the Government of Manipur, was allegedly abducted on November 4, 2003, from a school in the Sangaiprou, Imphal West district.

He said that on November 12, 2003, the girl's body was discovered in a gunny bag in a ditch near Tera Sadokpam Leikai in the Imphal West district.

Also, a 47-year-old man was given a life sentence for killing his own father, by a court in Manipur's Bishnupur district.

Khangjrakpam Boby from Khoijuman in the Bishnupur district was found guilty under Section 302 of the IPC of beheading his father, Sanakhomba alias Samungou, by the Court of Session Judge, Bishnupur.

According to Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) L Danny Meetei, on March 3, 2014, the accused killed his father by using a machete to hack off his father's head.

In response to Penu's statement that her son had decapitated her husband Sanakhomba during a fight, Bishnupur Police filed a FIR under Section 302 of the IPC, detained the suspect the following day, and started an investigation.

The court condemned Kho Boby to life in solitary confinement with a 5% fee after hearing the defence attorney and the APP's arguments.
