IMPHAL : The communications scenario in Manipur is set to witness a sea- change, with the arrival of 5G services for the residents of the state. Airtel has recently announced the launch of 5G services in several parts of Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. 

The service will be available to its customers in a phased manner. The 5G Plus service will be free to all the customers in Manipur at zero cost, providing they own a 4G sim with an active prepaid or postpaid plan. As discussed, the service will provided in a phased manner. 

As of now, the decided areas are- Akampat area, War Cemetery, Dewlahland area, Takyelpat area, RIMS Imphal area, New Secretariat, Bahupara area, Nagaram, Ghari, Uripok, Sagolband and few more selected regions. The service will be spread across more regions of the state with time.

The CEO of Airtel, Northeast and Assam division, Rajnish Verma stated that, customers will be able to experience a speed 20-30 times faster than the 4G speed. Verma was thrilled to introduce this service in Manipur which will allow citizens to enjoy extremely fast and high definition video quality.

In 2022, Airtel demonstrated the efficiency of its 5G network at the India Mobile Congress (IMC). Moreover, users are continuously promoting their experience of Airtel 5G Plus on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. It is to be noted that, Airtel is the only telecom operator that has introduced 5G services in India commercially.

Reliance Jio has also launched 5G, however, it has not been launched commercially. Reliance Jio company allows its customer to use 5G data without any cost, but it is confined to only certain customers as it is on an invite only basis. Lately, the Sunil Mittal driven Bharti Airtel has introduced the 5G services in several parts of the country, such as Shimla, Hyderabad.

According to sources, the company has decided to extend its coverage across India by March 2023.
