IMPHAL: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Assam Rifles and Manipur University for the creation of 'Assam Rifles Chair of Excellence' at the varsity.

The MoU will enable the sponsoring of research work by Assam Rifles (AR) jointly with Manipur University in the field of 'Conflict Studies, National Security, Socio-economic & Cultural Fields' with focus on the NE region and South East Asia. The MoU was signed on March 6.

It would also focus at conduct of seminars and round-table discussions on furthering India's 'Act East Policy' and other related issues.

The ceremony was attended by Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan and Registrar of Manipur University, Prof W. Chandbabu Singh, Vice Chancellor (in-Charge), Manipur University Prof S Santombi Singha, Lt Gen. (retd) K. Himalaya Singh, IG Maj. Gen. Alok Naresh and other faculties of Manipur University, stated a release.

EX-SERVICEMEN RALLY AT IMPHAL CONDUCTED: Approximately 450 ex-servicemen from all the districts of the State including World War-II veterans, Veer Naris and their dependents attended the event conducted under the theme 'We Connect — We Care'.

The event presided over by the DG Assam Rifles, Lt Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan, and Sangeeta Sangwan, president of the 'Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association' (ARWWA) was also attended by Maj. Gen Alok Naresh, IG AR (South), Lt Gen K Himalaya Singh (Veteran), Lt Gen. L. Nishikanta Singh (Veteran) and other officials of the Assam Rifles.

The veterans were enlightened about various beneficiary schemes including the recruitment rallies, sports quota for recruitment in Assam Rifles, reservation in various educational institutes/ hostels for their wards and extension of the 'Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme' (ECHS) for the veterans of Assam Rifles.

An 'Open Adalat' was also conducted by officials of HQ DGAR to provide a platform for registration of grievances and their immediate redressal. As part of the rally, a Medical and Dental Camp was organized for the attendees.

War Veterans, Veer Naris and disabled ex-servicemen were also felicitated during the event, stated a release.
