Guwahati: Amid the fierce political battle between the Congress in Manipur, a full-blown war has erupted on Twitter between BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav and senior Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Gaurav Gogoi.
The controversy began after former Union Minister Maken and Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress in-charge of the state landed in Imphal on Friday and had to go into quarantine owing to the Covid-19 measures.
After the BJP candidate, Leishamba Sanajaoba had secured the lone Rajya Sabha seat by defeating the Congress' Tongbram Mangibabu, Ram Madhav took a swipe at the Congress leaders on Twitter. "Congress party couldn't win the Rajya Sabha seat in Manipur. Yet went to governor claiming they have a majority in Assembly. Their leader Ajay Maken and MP Gaurav Gogoi entered Manipur disregarding Corona guidelines. They have been promptly quarantined by d state health authorities", he said.
Maken, responding to Raghav's jibe, tweeted, "Congress always regards rules & traditions. We came here with permission (as attached)with full knowledge & booked quarantine centre in advance. It's a support to the Manipur PCC and it's people in the fight against a Government formed by manipulation against popular votes!"
The Congress leader posted a letter on Twitter where Rehanuddin Choudhury, the Joint Secretary (Home) had requested that the two Congress visitors be allowed to proceed to quarantine after the arrival in the state.
Gaurav Gogoi, responding to Raghav's remark, countered, "You're a senior person in your party. I would have hoped that you would check your facts before tweeting. Maybe the last minute manipulation to block 4 Congress votes has induced a false sense of confidence."
Madhav, continuing the war of words, responded by saying, "Thanks. A total of 5 Congress MLAs have voted for BJP candidate. That is a fact. So much for your confidence-boosting visit to Imphal. The government has clearly conveyed to you and Mr Maken about quarantine rules in advance. Yet you went to 'boost' confidence. Result!"
Meanwhile, Ajay Makan has informed The Sentinel Digital that the Congress has moved the Manipur High Court against the Manipur Assembly Speaker for allegedly "blocking" 4 Congress votes during the polling. The case is being handled by senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi.
The N Biren Singh-led Government has been pushed to the brink after the resignation of three BJP MLAs, the ruling party in the state; and six coalition members, including four National People's Party (NPP), one Trinamool Congress (TMC) and one independent MLA from Jiribam quitting their support to BJP-led coalition government that was elected to power in 2017.
