IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has inaugurated the 'Virtual Cherry Blossom Festival' at Mao in Senapati district of the State. The virtual festival features the picturesque landscape of Mao adorned with beautiful cherry trees laden with pink flowers which have been traditionally attracted visitors from across the world.
CM Biren Singh shared pictures of the inauguration on his Twitter account. He wrote: ''Virtual Cherry Blossom Festival, Mao, Senapati Dist inaugurated via VC from my office. The Festival featured the picturesque landscape of Mao adorned with beautiful cherry trees laden with blooming flowers which have traditionally attracted visitors from across the world.''
The festival was streamed live from 2 pm on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram among others on January 9. Mao, where the festival took place, is not only a major tourist place but also an important hill station for reaching other beautiful tourist spots like Dzuko Valley and Mount Iso, which happens to be the highest peak of Manipur.
The virtual Cherry Blossom Festival at Mao, Manipur was jointly organized by the Department of Tourism and Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Shillong in association with the Organising Committee Flower Festival, Mao.
The cherry blossom, also known as Prunus cerasoides also covers the whole of east and west Khasi hills. These gorgeous and vibrant flowers grow in the wild but can be spotted across the State during October and November in Meghalaya. The 'International Cherry Blossom Festival' which is celebrated in Shillong was cancelled for the global pandemic. Japan is renowned for its cherry blossom festival too. However, the flowers bloom in Japan during the Spring season. Similarly, Paris has its cherry blossom days when the whole city turns all the more romantic and beautiful. (Agencies)
