Imphal: In a bid to protect the famous Loktak Lake, the centre has assured to provide Rs 97 crore, said Manipur Forest and Environment Minister Awangbow Newmai.
He informed this after holding a meeting with the Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav on Sunday.
Yadav stressed the need for implementing the integrated management plan of Loktak in a responsible manner while reviewing various schemes and plans for the conservation and preservation of the biggest freshwater lake in the northeast region.
While speaking to media on Sunday, the Newmai Sunday asserted that the review meeting in presence of the central minister was held with an objective to save Loktak Lake.
"The Union Minister gave his commitment to providing Rs 97 crore to undertake various protection measures of the Loktak Lake," he added.
On the other hand, the union minister said that his ministry is committed to the preservation and conservation of the lake whose condition has deteriorated over the years because of human activities.
