IMPHAL: The High School Leaving Certificate examination has started in the state of Manipur and a total of 96 students have not been allowed to sit in the examinations this year by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur for the failure to submit the necessary applications within the stipulated time.
Citing reasons as negligence on the part of 19 schools to which these 96 students belong, the Board of Secondary Education Manipur has decided against letting these students attend the examination. An official with the Board mentioned that this decision was taken after consultation with the officials of the education department as well as the education minister.
He also mentioned that this action was the result of the alleged negligence of the school authorities towards the rules and regulations issued by the board thus resulting in problems to the future of these children. He also mentioned that the non-submission of the forms for these students by the respective schools came to light during the distribution of the admit cards.
The official also mentioned the BOSEM has stated the online submissions in 2020 itself and it was carried out in multiple phases in order to ensure that no students are missed out from the schools of the state. But the school authorities neglected all the steps and submitted their respective lists of the students without verifying the numbers.
“The applications were way past the last date of form submission; all the data of submitted forms had been fed into the system and thus the matter was out of our hands,” the official mentioned.
The official also mentioned that the first notification for the form submission was circulated on 13 December, 2022. It instructed schools to start the form submission process from December 20, 2022 till January 16, 2023 (without fine) and from January 17, 2023 to January 31, 2023 (with fine). February 7 was posted as the last day of submissions which was later extended to February 7, 2023.
