GUWAHATI: A joint operation of the Manipur and Guwahati Police lifted the lid from an inter-State narcotics cartel. Police spources informed The Sentinel on Thursday that the operation in Manipur also led to the arrest of a person accused in drug-trafficking.
In a daring Operation, the police team arrested and brought back to Assam a very important linkman of a Manipur-based drug trafficking network that was trying to spread its tentacles in Guwahati.
The operation was conducted in the Moirang area of Bishnupur District of Manipur, which is considered very sensitive from the law-and-order perspective. The arrested accused has been identified as Shabir Ahamad (29 years); son of Md. Naseer Ahamad of Kwakta, Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur District of Manipur.
The arrest has been made in connection with Basistha Police Station Case No 1533/21 u/s 21(C)/29 NDPS Act. It is related to the earlier seizure of a large quantity of heroin from a truck as well as the arrest of two accused in Guwahati on August 19, 2021. Preliminary questioning has revealed valuable information about a number of drug trafficking networks, added the top police source. Investigation of the case is on to unearth further linkages.
