Khelo India 2022: Martina Of Manipur Breaks Seven Records On Her Way To Weightlifting Gold
IMPHAL: On the last day of the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Madhya Pradesh (KIYG2022MP), host Madhya Pradesh (M.P) won the Boys hockey gold, defeating Odisha 3-2 at the M.P Women's Academy field in Gwalior. Manipur weightlifter M. Martina Devi won the Girl's 81kg+ gold, shattering three national youth records in the process.
Though they finished the day with a total of 53 gold, 53 silver, and 47 bronze medals, Maharashtra maintained to hold sway over the top spot in the medal count. With 40 and 36 golds, respectively, Haryana and M.P. held on to the second and third spots.
The Jharkhand girls prevented the hosts from winning both hockey games that day, winning their final 4-3 before the boy's final. Boys' and girls' football were won by Kerala and Manipur, respectively, while tennis singles gold medals went to top seed Aryan Shah of Gujarat and second seed Suhita Maruri of Karnataka.
According to sources, at Indore's Basketball Complex, the site of the weightlifting tournament, one person once again set three further national youth records. M. Martina Devi of Manipur took first place in the Girl's 81kg+ division with a total lift of 199 kg.
Her last attempts in the snatch (88 kg) and clean and jerk events were both national juvenile records (111kg). In fact, Martina shattered a total of seven national youth records en route to gold, exactly like Haryana's Sanjana, who won the Girls 76kg on Thursday.
Andhra's Ch. Sri Lakshmi lifted a total of 191 kg to win gold in the Girl's 81 kg division. Akshat Sharma of Delhi, who lifted a total of 274 kg, won the gold medal in the Boy's 102 kg division. Chandigarh's Paramvir Singh, who lifted 311 kg in the Boys 102kg+ event, took home the gold medal.
Football: Kerala and Manipur triumph
Kerala defeated Karnataka 2-0 to take home the trophy for the Boy's Football competition at the Emerald Heights football field in Indore. The winning goals came in the game's first half from Sreeraj CP (in the 31st minute) and Kiran K (in the 43rd minute). Babita Oinam Devi's goal in the 74th minute of play gave Manipur a 1-0 victory over West Bengal in the girls' football championship.
