IMPHAL: Upto 22 boys who were being kept in appalling conditions and receiving terrible nutrition in a camp in Kerala have been rescued after being sought out by several coaches and recruiters from Manipur.

In a press conference held in Imphal, NG Uttam, the director of the Manipur Social Welfare Department of the Government of Manipur, made this announcement.

Several complaints about the mistreatment and inadequate nutrition of the talented soccer players from the state have also been received from Delhi and Hyderabad, but the Manipur government is still expecting details, according to the director.

According to NG Uttam, these boys received approval from their parents and the top football organization in Manipur to enroll at various football academies around the nation.

The director revealed that 22 young footballers were rescued from a company in Kerala out of 31 youngsters from Manipur who were recruited with green signals through the top football organization, the All Manipur Football Association (AMFA).

Yet, the director omitted the name of the company, whether real or fictitious. The director said that after receiving complaints about their bad living conditions at the camp, they were sent back to the state.

NG Uttam bemoaned the fact that some of the children rescued from the company were found to be learning at a lower level than they had previously done in Manipur school courses.

The director responded, "The coaches and recruiters manipulates poor and passionate youngsters by assuring them they'll play for big clubs with a decent school in the future." when asked about the future plans of the disadvantaged children.

Uttam also cautioned parents and the AMFA to be on the lookout for child traffickers who use false pretences in an effort to recruit children as future athletes. He also asks for the creation of a football academy in Manipur with qualified trainers to train aspiring players.
