IMPHAL: The riot-plagued Manipur's situation has deteriorated as over 23000 people have been moved, thousands of vehicles have been destroyed, and over 1000 persons have been brought to hospitals. Among the most prevalent types of injuries are gunshot wounds and injuries caused by hitting.

Over 23000 individuals have fled violence-infested areas. Vehicles and homes were set on fire, and several homes were vandalized and plundered. As a result, individuals are relocating to army camps or bases.

To put the situation under control, the government issued "Shoot-at-sight" orders and army drones and helicopters were sent to keep a tight eye on the state.

Apart from that, the Supreme Court will hear a case from a governing BJP MLA challenging the High Court's decision to grant Scheduled Tribe status to the Meitei group.

Furthermore, due to the deterioration of the situation in Manipur, the Supreme Court will hear petitions on Monday. Tribal groups, on the other side, have filed a petition to convene a SIT.

To keep a careful eye on the situation, the central government has already deployed around 10,000 personnel across the state, including the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and CAPF.

On the other side, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured Manipur on Monday that peace will be restored. According to him, the curfew would remain in effect until the situation is brought under control.

Shah promised that the Manipur government would consult with all stakeholders before ruling on the Meitei community's application for Scheduled Tribe status.

The unrest occurred in Manipur on Wednesday, May 3, when a protest march organized by the Kuki tribal minority sparked clashes with the non-tribal Meitei people.

The march was organized in response to a recent Manipur High Court judgment directing the state administration to make a report to the Centre over the demand to place the majority and primarily Hindu Meitei group on the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
