IMPHAL : Three Myanmar nationals who were arrested for entering India illegally ran away from a temporary jail in Manipur. The revelation has been made by concerned police officials on Monday.

The three accused were detained under the Foreigners Act in a temporary jail in Manipur's Churachandpur district. The episode took place at Sadbhavna Mandap, Khominthang, New Lamka, about 65 km south of Imphal, an area which borders Myanmar.

Police personnel with knowledge of the case stated that three Myanmarese identified as Wimnintay of 28 years age, Win Naing Thon of 27 years and Biaka who was 17 years old fled away from the jail. The escape was discovered on Sunday at around 8am.

While Win Naing Thon and Wimnintay were under custody since 4th April, 2021, Biaka was apprehended on 29th March, 2022. Meanwhile, the police has initiated a search operation and investigation is being carried in relation with the case.

Last year, in the month of June, as many as 80 Myanmar nationals were detained by the Manipur police during an operation. Among the 80 Myanmarese, 20 were children, 25 men and 35 women. The arrest was made from several areas of Churachandpur district.

In their defense, the Myanmarese nationals admitted that they all hail from Myanmar. However, they failed to produce any documents to justify their entry into the Indian territory. Recently, a matter came forth where the Myanmar military launched an air strike over a training camp for pro-democracy forces.

As per sources, two bombs fell on the Indian side, although the Indian defence forces denied the attack. The Guardian, also quoted eye witnesses regarding the incident. Two locals in Mizoram's Farkawan village informed about witnessing the dropping of two bombs on the Indian side of the border.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported on Indian soil.
