Guwahati: In a major development, the Assam Rifles has apprehended two militants of different insurgent groups from Manipur's Imphal district and Thoubal Town.
As per an official statement, the Keithelmanbi Battalion of Assam Riffles along with Manipur police apprehended the duo in a separate operation on Tuesday.
The two active insurgents belonged to United National Liberation Front- Progressive (UNLF-P) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Assam Rifles said, "ASSAM RIFLES APPREHENDS UNLF(P) AND PLA INSURGENTS IN MANIPUR Keithelmanbi Battalion of #AssamRifles on 30 Aug, in a joint operation with Thoubal Police apprehended 2 active insurgents of proscribed group UNLF(P) & 1 insurgent of PLA from Thoubal & Imphal West Districts, Manipur."
In another such operation, the Longding Battalion Assam Rifles along with State Police apprehended an ENNG cadre from the general area of Zibo colony near here.
Based on specific input regarding the presence of an ENNG cadre in the general area Zibo colony of Longding town, a joint operation along with State Police was launched and an extensive search of the area was carried out.
During the search of the suspected area, the cadre was apprehended by the joint team.
The initial interrogation revealed that the cadre was involved in motivating the youth for joining the ENNG faction. The apprehension of active cadres is a major setback to insurgent groups operating in the region.
The apprehended cadre was handed over to Longding Police for further investigation.
