MANIPUR: Along with Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, Manipur will also hold assembly elections this year.

Manipur will hold legislative assembly elections in two parts from February 27 to March 3, 2022, to elect 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Notably, T Thangzalam Haokip, a former deputy speaker of the Manipur parliament, was nominated for the next state election by the Shiv Sena on Tuesday. The Shiv Sena's second list, revealed during the day, included Haokip's name. In the Churachandpur district, he will run for the Henglep seat. He formerly belonged to the BJP. Nominated for the Keirao seat is Toijam Debananda Singh.

On Monday, the Shiv Sena, which is contesting for the first time in Manipur's assembly elections, presented its initial list of six candidates.

The BJP also announced that it will run for all 60 seats in the Manipur assembly elections, along with a list of its candidates. In Manipur, at least ten former Congress leaders have been given tickets among the 16 MLAs who have joined the BJP.

Several BJP officials, including those who were running for party tickets but were passed up in order to make room for recent defectors, have resigned from the party's primary membership.

On the other hand, Congress on Tuesday released its second list of 10 candidates

On March 10, 2022, the votes will be tallied and the results will be announced.

N. Biren Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister on March 15, 2017, after forming a coalition with the National People's Party, the Naga People's Front, and the Lok Janshakti Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party has formed a government in Manipur for the first time.

The Congress gained a total of 28 seats in the 2017 elections, making it the single largest party.
