IMPHAL: According to authorities, a Class XII student who was taking the current Council of Higher Secondary Exams in Manipur (CoHSEM) was fatally murdered on Saturday night in the northeastern state's Kangpokpi district.

On April 1, a paper in elective subjects will wrap up the tests.

The incident gained significance in light of the Center's and Manipur's announcements that the "Disturbed Area Status" had been lifted from four more police stations, bringing the state's total to 17, in an effort to remove the "draconian" Armed Forces (Special Powers Act, 1958) from these areas as of April 1.

However, the Kangpokpi district did not have any police stations on the list where the status was changed. According to the police, the most recent incident was done by two bike-riding miscreants who shot the 17-year-old near his home at Motbung Bazaar.

Seigunlal Misao, a deceased student at Damdei Christian College, was attacked at 8.30 p.m. while he was at the market just 200 metres from his home. According to officials, the attackers ran away after performing the crime.

A police official from the Kangpokpi area told media that the child was talking to one of his pals at Motbung Bazaar when the thugs, who most likely arrived on motorcycles, shot him dead in broad daylight.

He most likely passed away there and then. According to him, forensic specialists arrived at the scene about 1 p.m., and the body was sent to the RIMS mortuary in Imphal for an examination.

A bullet and one empty 9-mm pistol cartridge were both discovered in the spot of incident. Officials believed that one of the criminals riding the bike was a female. As per authorities, an investigation is ongoing, and any potential involvement of militants in the homicide is being looked into.

"According to the village head concerned, the youngster was not politically involved," Kangpokpi DC Kengoo Zuringla stated. Locals in the area were protesting the killing in the meantime.
