IMPHAL: During an encounter with a gang of militants on the night of June 5–6, Manipur's Serou district witnessed a terrible occurrence in which a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan reportedly lost his life and two Assam Rifles soldiers received gunshot wounds.

Immediately after getting hurt, the Assam Rifles troops were airlifted to Mantriphukhri for critical medical care.

In a statement confirming the event, the Indian Army's Spear Corps said: “One BSF jawan succumbed to fatal injuries, while two Assam Rifles personnel sustained gunshot wounds (GSW) in the general area of Serou.”

In the Sugnu/Serou areas of Manipur, the Assam Rifles, BSF, and local police quickly began extensive area control operations.

Security personnel and the militants exchanged gunfire intermittently over the course of June 5–6 night. The security officers did, however, properly respond to the firing.

The BSF conveyed condolences on Twitter in response to their jawan's passing. They paid tribute to Ct/GD Ranjit Yadav, a member of the 163 Bn. BSF, who gave his life in the line of duty and distinguished himself by acting with extraordinary bravery and devotion. When BSF personnel were stationed at Serou Practical High School in PS Sugnu, District Kakching, Manipur, suspected Kuki miscreants opened fire on them indiscriminately and heavily.

The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces), and the police began wide area control operations in response to the recent crisis in Manipur. The goal of these operations when they first started was to bring stability and peace back to the area.

The collaborative operations have produced considerable outcomes since they began. A total of 40 weapons, mostly automatic rifles, as well as mortars, ammo, and other military supplies, have been found by authorities.

The operations were carried out under the watchful observation of quadcopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to a BSF official, around 4.15 am, suspected Kuki miscreants opened fire heavily and indiscriminately on BSF personnel stationed at the Serou Practical High School. During the gunfight, Constable Ranjit Yadav was shot and sent to Jivan Hospital in Kakching, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the official. The two hurt Assam Rifles soldiers have been flown to Mantripukhri, and search efforts are continuing, the Dimapur-based SpearCorps of the Indian Army said.
