IMPHAL: In a significant announcement, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed the public in the Naga-dominated Ukhrul district, acknowledging the challenges people faced due to the mobile internet ban and assuring them of its restoration within the next "four to five days."
Singh explained that the government was compelled to impose the mobile internet ban due to certain elements exploiting the situation to create trouble. However, he emphasized his commitment to the people, ensuring that mobile internet services would be fully restored in a matter of days.
During this address, Chief Minister Singh also laid the foundation stones for several development projects and inaugurated schemes with a total worth of Rs 64.38 crore in the Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, indicating the government's strong dedication to the region's growth and prosperity.
Singh acknowledged some critical issues in the district capital, particularly concerning population growth and land utilization. To address these concerns, he proposed the development of a new Ukhrul township near Sirarakhong village. This endeavor is a testament to the government's determination to align with the local community's desires and foster sustainable development.
Recognizing the significance of Ukhrul as a town following Imphal, Chief Minister Singh addressed the issue of water scarcity that the region faces. To combat this problem, he allocated Rs 6 crore for water supply enhancement within the town and unveiled ambitious plans to construct a dam, which is estimated to cost between Rs 180 crore and Rs 200 crore. This step aims to ensure a sustainable and reliable water source for the town's growing population.
In his speech, Singh expressed his gratitude to civil society leaders and village chiefs for their unwavering support in the state's anti-drug campaign. He highlighted the collaborative efforts aimed at addressing various challenges and propelling the region toward progress and prosperity.
