IMPHAL: In a recent incident in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, fresh clashes have erupted, resulting in multiple casualties and a state of turmoil in the region. The situation unfolded in the village of Pallel, which is predominantly Kuki-Zo, leaving the local residents in a state of panic and chaos.

Reports indicate that the ITLF media cell released a statement detailing the events. According to their account, around 7 a.m., a group of Meitei militants, accompanied by Manipur Police Commandos, launched an attack on Pallel. The assault was sudden and intense, forcing villagers to flee for their lives as they found themselves surrounded on all sides. Disturbingly, Meira Paibis, a prominent women's organization in Manipur, were seen filling the streets of Pallel in response to the crisis. It is feared that many Meitei individuals who participated in the attack sustained injuries or lost their lives during the confrontation.

The ITLF said, “Around 7 a.m. Meitei militants led by Manipur Police Commando attacked Pallel, a Kuki-Zo village in Tengnoupal District. The villagers fled for their lives after they were attacked from all sides. Meira Paibis were seen thronging the street of Pallel. Many Meitei who took part in the attack were feared injured or killed.”

The exact trigger for the clash in Pallel remains under investigation, and the situation on the ground is still volatile. Security forces have been swiftly mobilized to evacuate civilians from the affected areas and to quell the growing unrest among the local population.

Amid this turmoil, it's important to note that Pallel is a Kuki-Zo village, emphasizing the potential ethnic dimensions of this conflict. In the wake of the violence, several villagers have sought refuge in a nearby BSF (Border Security Force) camp and a local school, seeking safety from the ongoing hostilities.

Tragically, initial reports indicate that at least four civilians have lost their lives in the clashes. However, as of now, neither the police nor the Assam Rifles have issued an official statement providing details or clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This incident underscores the fragile peace in Manipur and the ongoing tensions that exist among various ethnic and militant groups in the region. The situation remains fluid and continues to evolve, with authorities working diligently to restore order and ensure the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire.
