Manipur CM Asks Mizoram CM “Not to Interfere in the Internal Matters of Another State”

IMPHAL: The chief minister of Manipur has asked the Mizoram chief minister to refrain from interfering in the internal matters of his state. His comes a day after the state of Mizoram saw a massive rally in solidarity with the Kuki-Zo tribal communities of the state during the ongoing ethnic violence in the state. The clashes between the two communities will reach a timeline of three months soon if the authorities do not ensure that peace is restored.

Organisations representing the Kuki community have been accusing the Manipur government of working against the interests of the tribal communities, who are a majority in the hills while supporting the Meiteis are a majority in the valley region of the state.

According to reports, the neighbouring state of Mizoram has sheltered about over 13000 people who had fled from Manipur since the beginning of the conflict between the communities of the state. The Mizo people have strong ethnic ties with the Kuki-Zo communities of Manipur as well as the Chin people of Manipur. A huge number of people from the Chin community have also taken shelter in Mizoram following their fight with several parties including the Myanmar Army.

Manipur CM N Biren Singh mentioned that his government has been tracking all events that are going on across his state and gave a strict warning to those who are, in his words, "trying to destroy the integrity of Manipur". He also added that the fight is now between the state government and those who want to disturb the peaceful co-existence of the people of Manipur.

He also voiced his concerns regarding the CM of Mizoram taking part in the protest rally in Aizawl and supporting the Kuki-Zo communities. "I ask the Mizoram chief minister not to interfere in the internal matter of another state," N Biren Singh said.
