N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur inaugurated the Tokyo Olympics' "Cheer 4 India" campaign in Imphal on Monday.
"Launched the Tokyo Olympic #Cheer4India campaign in Manipur too as a way of cheering the athletes representing India. We are initiating activities like Olympic Quiz, fan engagement drives, Olympic Symposium and also setting up selfie points to click pictures & show their support," twitted the Manipur CM announcing the launch of the campaign.
Under the campaign, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh offered cash prizes to manipur athletes who win gold at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday.
N. Biren Singh stated that the state government will reward gold medalists Rs. 1.2 crore, silver medalists Rs. 1 crore, and bronze medalists Rs. 75 lakhs in the Tokyo Olympics.
Furthermore, Singh stated that the state will offer a monetary incentive of Rs. 25 lakh to each of the five athletes who will represent the country in the Tokyo Olympics.
The statement was made by the Chief Minister at the Chief Minister's Secretariat during the inauguration of "Selfie Point" to cheer on the Indian Olympic contingent.
The campaign has been started to rally support for the Indian athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics.
The Tokyo Olympics are set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July 23 to August 8, this year.
"It is a matter of pride for a small state like Manipur as many as five players are being selected to represent the country in the Olympics. I am that the players will bring laurels and wish them success on behalf of the people of Manipur," said N. Biren Singh.
So far, Manipur has five athletes shortlisted for the Summer Olympics: London Olympic bronze medallist MC Mary Kom, Sushila Likmabam (Judo), Saikhom Mirabai (Weightlifting), Shanglakpam Nilakanta Sharma Hockey)o and Sushila Chanu (Hockey).
