GUWAHATI: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) CoBRA commando, identified as C Haokip from Lhunjang village in Manipur's Bishnupur district was killed in the ongoing violence in Manipur by assailants.

According to reports, the commando was on leave and was scheduled to return on May 7.

Following the incident, the CRPF has instructed all CRPF soldiers on leave to return back to their nearest base with their family members for safety until the situation gets better.

The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) is regarded as one of the fiercest guerilla warfare units.

The violence in Manipur occurred in response to a protest by the All Tribal Students' Union of Manipur against the placement of the Meitei group on the Scheduled Tribe (ST) List. In contrast, the Indian Army said in an official statement that Manipur was taken under control on Friday. The army and local authorities have said that they are working nonstop to restore order and remove civilians to a safe location.

Meanwhile, security authorities have led proactive operations, flag marches, established blockades, and collaboration with local people and authorities to ensure local people have a solid sense of safety," the authority stated, adding that nearly 13,000 regular people have been protected and are currently remaining in various impromptu boarding offices made by an organization working bases and military posts.

In addition, on Friday, four persons were killed by assailants during another evacuation in Manipur's Churachandpur, according to sources.

This shooting in Churachandpur occurred during a period of intense tension between the state's majority Meitei people group and the Kuki clan. Meiteis have been targeted in hill tribe-dominated areas, while Kukis have been targeted in Imphal, the state capital.

According to Indian Army troops, the Indian Army deployed continuous sorties from two airfields in Assam on Friday, using C17 Globemaster and AN 32 aircraft.

BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte, on the other hand, was attacked by miscreants and was promptly evacuated to a hospital. According to the most recent developments, his condition is presently stable.

The violence began when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' organized by All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) was allegedly attacked by an armed mob, escalating the state's violence.
