IMPHAL : As the New Year has begun and few states are celebrating their achievements in maximum number of drug seizures and arrests made in 2022, a new case has been registered in the state of Manipur. 

Manipur police has apprehended a woman and a youth in relation with procurement of 422 grams of brown sugar. The lady is of 40 years old and the value of the items is worth Rs 50 lakhs as per the international market rate. 

The cops informed on 3rd of January, that the duo will be under the police custody until 10th of January. They will have to go through necessary investigation and interrogation processes.

Police conducted a search operation and raided the house of the woman after receiving a confidential information. Wangoi police in cooperation with local people of Paobitek village, rushed to the residence of Sesant Rasejar aka Petru.

The smugglers house was located in Paobitek Mamang Likai village in West Imphal district. After carrying on the initial interrogation process, another name popped up in relation with the matter.

Sesant Rasejar was carrying on illegal drugs trafficking racket in the area along with a young boy, identified as Md Wangmayum Chaoba aka Nurul Islam. The youth was resident of Mayang Imphal Bengool Makha Leikai.

Wangmayum Chaoba gkt arrested from his own house on 1st of January 2023. This is the first case of 2023 in relation with drugs in the state of Manipur. The duo was charged under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985.

Furthermore, the police mentioned that, in 2022 450 kgs of brown sugar were seized from varied smugglers. A total of 621 cases were registered in connection with the same.

CM N Biren Singh stated on 30th December that, in 2022, narcotics worth Rs 1,228 crore as per the international market rate and 703 arrests were made in the same regard. Along with that, unauthorised poppy cultivation land of 1,780 acres have been destroyed by the department.
