Manipur: Fake Spokesperson Of Chief Minister's Office Detained

IMPHAL: On Wednesday, a person who had been detained in 2019 on suspicion of acting as a fake spokesperson for the Chief Minister's office was arrested for claiming to be the head of the Manipur Anti-Corruption Foundation of India (ACFI).

Md Mansoor Alam of Kairang Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, has been named as the arrested individual.

According to the police, Mansoor was detained for impersonating a self-styled state ACFI president who was supposedly registered with the National Vigilance Commission, ITA, NITI Aayog and MSME, all departments of the Indian government.

At the Heingang police station, a case has been opened against Alam for further investigation.

The Imphal East district police team detained Mansoor Alam on June 16, 2019, after he claimed to be the chief minister's secretariat's spokesperson. Alam (40), a resident of Imphal East's Keirang neighborhood, is accused of posting false information regarding the administration. Alam allegedly confessed at the SP's office. According to a statement from the CM's office, "one Mansoor Alam, purporting to be the official spokesperson of the CM, was spreading fake news through social media."

S Rajen Singh, the chief minister's personal secretary, gave a statement regarding the matter on June 16, 2019. It was stated that "Fake news is being spread in social media, such as Facebook, by one Mansoor Alam, who is claiming to be the official spokesperson of the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Manipur," adding that "he is not connected with any functioning of N Biren Singh" and that "neither the chief minister nor the CM Office has any official spokesperson named Mansoor Alam."

According to police, the district police released him and turned him over to the gram panchayat's local pradhan of Kairang Khomidok without filing any charges against him.
