Manipur: Government Denies Ground Permission for Rahul Gandhi's Yatra, Congress Shifts Venue

IMPHAL: In a recent development, the Manipur government has refused to grant ground permission for the launch of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district, originally scheduled for Sunday, January 14. The decision was conveyed to the Congress delegation, led by Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra, during a meeting with Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday, January 10.

Meghachandra expressed disappointment, deeming the government's response as "very unfortunate." Despite the setback, the Congress party swiftly changed the venue to a private location at Khongjom in Thoubal district. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is a significant political event, with All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge slated to flag off the rally. The yatra is set to cover 14 states and 85 districts, culminating on March 20.

The denial of ground permission by the Manipur government was attributed to concerns regarding the law and order situation. Chief Minister Biren Singh, on January 9, had initially indicated that the decision was under active consideration, pending reports from various security agencies. The final verdict on permission would be made based on the assessments provided by these agencies.

The yatra, a combination of foot-march and bus rides, aims to traverse a significant part of the country, addressing key political and social issues. Despite the initial uncertainty and change of venue, the Congress party remains committed to the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, viewing it as a crucial campaign that spans multiple states and districts.

As political tensions and dynamics play out, the decision to shift the venue reflects the agility of the Congress party in adapting to challenges. The yatra holds substantial importance in the party's strategy, and the denial of ground permission in one location has led to a quick adjustment to ensure the continuity of this extensive political journey.

In the coming weeks, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is expected to draw attention as it unfolds across the diverse landscapes of the country, addressing issues and concerns that resonate with the people of different states and districts. The political significance of this yatra extends beyond Manipur, reflecting the broader dynamics of the national political landscape.
