Manipur Government  emphasizes on Tourism Sector

Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh said that the Manipur Government has taken steps to implement Manipur Tourism Policy for promotion and development of tourism in the state while addressing the Manipur State Assembly.

On the ongoing budget session, CM Singh pointed out various steps taken by the government which also includes promotion of tourism through state and other local festivals and showcasing state's products to stakeholders at domestic and international events.

Singh further informed that steps are also taken for promotion and publicity in metro cities to educate potential visitors about the destinations. "The Ministry of DoNER, Ministry of Tourism and NEC funded infrastructure development projects are also under process," said Singh.

The CM also said that helicopter services have also been introduced besides increasing the flight frequency to encourage visitors into the state and improve the connectivity from different parts of the country.

The CM also expressed satisfaction over the increasing number of domestic and international tourists in the state during the past few years and to increase awareness of the tourist destinations and to develop the required infrastructure, works are in progress under Swadesh Darshan and North East Tourist Circuit.

He also reiterated that the state government was committed to preserve the natural beauty of the Loktak Lake to attract tourists. "Loktak Heritage Park will be developed to facilitate visitors to experience the natural and scenic beauty of the Lake," said Singh.

The state government is also planning to upgrade Shirui Lily festival by raising awareness so that it could be taken to national and international levels.

Addressing the house, the CM said that a total of Rs. 4171.14 lakh has been allocated in the revised estimate of 2018-19 out of which Rs. 3703.14 lakh has been earmarked for development of tourism infrastructure by organizing state festivals and promotion of tourism in the state.

The ongoing Manipur Assembly has also unanimously passed the Manipur Appropriation (No 1) Bill 2019, Manipur Appropriation (No 3) Bill 2019, Manipur Appropriation (No 4) Bill 2019 and Manipur Appropriation (No 5) Bill 2019 on the third day of the assembly.

On the instruction of the Chief Minister, a mass campaign 'Special Voters Registration Camp' has been conducted throughout the state on February 23 and 24 in all the polling stations to address problems related to inclusion, deletion or correction.
