Manipur Govt Issues New Directives, Mandates People to Produce Negative Covid Report Upon Arrival

Imphal: The government of Manipur has issued a new directive which will mandate people entering the state to produce Covid-19 negative test reports and it will come into effect from 8 January onwards.

K Rajo Singh, the director of health services in Manipur, via a notification dated 6 January, said that all air passengers, road passengers or for that matter anybody entering the state must carry negative Covid 19 RT-PCR test report done within 48 hours of arrival into the state.

This decision taken by the state government comes in the wake of 59 fresh covid cases being detected in the state thereby pushing Manipur's covid tally to 1, 25,964.

Manipur has recorded a total of 318 active covid cases and the state has reported 2,009 Covid-19 related deaths so far.

As many as 62 Covid-19 cases were under home isolation and the state has clocked a recovery rate of 98.15%.

At least 12 people were fined Rs. 2,100 on 6 January for violating Covid-19 guidelines, the likes of which include spitting in public and not wearing masks in public places.

It is to be noted that the first Omicron case in the entire north-eastern region was detected in Manipur on 28 December after a 48-year old man hailing from Manipur's West Imphal district, who had returned from Tanzania recently, tested positive for the new variant of Covid-19.
