Manipur Govt Takes Stock of Preparations Ahead of Amit Shah's Visit on Jan 6

IMPHAL: The Manipur government took stock of the preparations in place for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the state on Jan 6.

HM Amit Shah is all set for his next scheduled visit to Northeast India, including Manipur on January 6, with the objective of launching and laying foundation stones for several new development projects in the region.

In view of this impending visit, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday chaired a meeting with state ministers, MLAs, civil and police officials.

Preparations for Shah's reception, security arrangements and other programmes planned to be conducted during the home minister's visit here were the subject of the discussion in the meeting.

Early on Monday, the chief minister tweeted, "Chaired a meeting with Hon'ble Ministers, MLAs, Civil and Police Officials at my Secretariat in connection with hon'ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah's visit to the state. Deliberations were held on the preparations for reception, security arrangements and other programs."

Among the slew of projects, the Union home minister is scheduled to inaugurate an Olympic Park at Sangaithel hillock in Manipur, the first in the Northeast region, located about 15 km west of Imphal. The park is home to statues of several state Olympians, to honour their contribution to the state and the country.

Amit Shah will also inaugurate the polo statue atop Ibudhou Marjing Hill, at Heingang in Imphal east district. The 120 feet tall statue is the tallest in the region and is exoected to give a boost to tourism in Manipur, known to the birthplace of modern polo sport.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh told reporters on Friday that projects worth Rs 300-crore will be inaugurated while foundation stones for another Rs 1,000-crore worth of projects will be laid.

Official sources informed that the Union HM is slated to inaugurate the Churachandpur Medical College and an amusement park in Churachandpur district and the advance headquarters of INA (Indian National Army) at Bishnupur district's Moirang.

CM Biren Singh had earlier said that the Union minister will unfurl the Indian National Flag on a 165-feet-tall mast, the tallest in Northeast, installed at the INA Headquarter Complex.
