IMPHAL: Continuing the success story against narcotic substances, soldiers form the Assam Rifles regiment of Indian Army managed to capture a huge consignment of narcotic tablets from the Indo-Myanmar border on Saturday.

According to reports by the forces on Sunday, the team from Assam Rifles confiscated a package the day before near the Kwatha Junction. Said to be a gunny bag, the team found the package in the forest region in the Tengnoupal district of Manipur. This region also shares an international border with Myanmar.

Acting on specific intelligence, the patrol team found that the gunny bag contained World is Yours (WY) tablets. A total of 15 packets of the narcotic substance was discovered from the bag. The estimated street price of the consignment has been put at a total of around Rs 7.5 Crs. Although no arrests have been made with regards to this matter yet, reports mention that the drugs were part of a cross border drugs smuggling operation.Following the capture, the Assam Rifles team handed over the drugs to a team of the Moreh Police.

Assam Police also gained major successes in the fight against drugs last Saturday. Two huge consignments of Yaba tablets were seized by teams of Assam Police on that day. The first consignment of 60000 tablets was captured from the Nazirakhat Toll Gate in Sonapur, while the second consisting of 20000 tablets was captured from near Gorchuk in Guwahati. The estimated values of the narcotic tablets are said to be worth Rs. 15 Crs and Rs 5 Crs respectively.Two people were also affected in relation to these confiscations.

Apart from the drugs capture, the Mantripukhri battalion of the Assam rifles paramilitary force also organized a friendly football match at Chingrel Tejpur in Imphal East district. "The aim of the friendly match was to promote good relations and bonhomie among the Assam Rifles and the local populace," said a release.
