IMPHAL: An IED was recovered from Telipeti area under Porompat police station in Imphal East district in Manipur. The incident took place on 20th of December morning, Tuesday. 

The bomb was found in front of a godown's main gate owned by a non-local trader. M Pradip, the Superintendent of Police confirmed that, a team of Bomb Squad under Manipur police, recovered the powerful IED bomb and managed to defuse it in a safe spot. He further described the bomb to be 5 kgs in weight and comprised of 5 TNT sticks, Radio Data system and splinters in a silver container. 

People out on their morning walk, at around 7:00 am, spotted the unusual object lying there and had informed the police department about it. Everyone in that particular place were asked to disperse by the police, to avoid any sort of uncalled deaths or injury. 

According to an official statement, the bomb squad took two hours to completely defuse the crude bomb. In order to assist and prevent any unwanted incident, an ambulance and a fire brigade also rushed to the spot. 

The owner of the godown has been identified as Ramnath Sahu. The SP further mentioned that the state has witnessed such an episode in less than two years. The unidentified persons has chosen the same spot for the second time.

However, until now no outfit has come forward in relation with planting bomb in that area. Two months back, a medium intensity explosion was witnessed outside the residence of Kh Loken Singh, the former MLA of Imphal West district.

The blast caused partial destruction including the front gate of the house, a street lamp and a portion of the street.

However, on September this year, two people were apprehended by the Manipur police after getting caught for planting Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Ward Development Committee office.
