IMPHAL: In a significant development, security forces in Manipur have successfully seized a substantial consignment of arms and ammunition from various areas within Imphal East district, reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace and security in the region. The Manipur police confirmed this operation in a statement, revealing the recovered weapons and equipment details.

The operation, which took place on Thursday, October 19, targeted the Shantipur, Khamenlok, and Wakan areas of Imphal East district, bringing in a haul of arms and explosives. The seized arsenal includes 36 weapons, consisting of three AK-47/56 rifles, four carbine machine guns, seven self-loading rifles (SLRs), and a staggering 1,615 rounds of ammunition and explosives, notably 82 hand grenades.

Additionally, the security forces discovered 132 other war-like supplies, including bulletproof jackets and walkie-talkie sets. This significant seizure is a testament to the ongoing efforts by Manipur's law enforcement agencies to stabilize the state's security situation and restore normalcy.

The Manipur police revealed that search operations were meticulously conducted in the vulnerable areas of Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts. The operation yielded an array of weaponry and explosives from Wakan, Shantipur, and Khamenlok ridges under the jurisdiction of the Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district.

The recovered arms and ammunition include AK-47/56 rifles, 51mm mortars, improvised rocket launchers, .303 rifles, carbine machine guns, and various other firearm types. Notably, the cache also contained a variety of ammunition, including INSAS rifle rounds, 12-bore cartridges, and hand grenades. The equipment seized included tube launchers, magazines, and body protection gear, such as bulletproof jackets and vests.

The size and scope of this arms and ammunition seizure underscore the importance of continued efforts to maintain peace and stability in Manipur. Manipur's Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, previously noted that substantial progress had been made towards reestablishing peace in the state, claiming that "90% peace has been restored." This seizure is a clear demonstration of the commitment of Manipur's security forces to that goal.

The successful seizure of a vast cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur's Imphal East district is a positive step forward in the ongoing efforts to bring peace and normalcy to the region. The recovery of these weapons and explosives reinforces the determination of Manipur's security forces to ensure the safety and security of the state's residents.
