IMPHAL: A  serious matter came to light in Manipur, where a married tutor allegedly abducted a 13 year old girl student. The incident took place on 15th of December, and a case in the matter was registered on 16th of December in Thoubal women's police station.

Ever since that time, there has been no sign of both the accused and the victim. Manipur police are on a lookout for the tutor who has been identified as Thokchom Kennedy, a 24 year old married man of Khangabok Lamdaibung located in Manipur's Thoubal district.

The victim was studying in the 8th standard and she was kidnapped on 15th December 2022. Despite efforts from the police department, the tutor and the girl student are yet to be tracked down.

A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in relation with the abduction case.

The committee has decided the deadline as 2nd of January, and has threatened the administration of staging protests across the state. Moreover, CSOs, clubs, and student bodies have also warned the concerned authorities of protests if the escaping teacher does not get arrested.

Md Sarif Khan, the co-convenor of JAC stated that, the kidnapped girl was a resident of Hayellabuk in Thoubal district. The accused, Thokchom Kennedy along with being a tutor was the co founder of a coaching institute.

Certain groups and organisations are also alleging that the police department is dealing with the matter very casually and no serious efforts has been made from their end. These organisations forwarded the view that one such incident between a student and a teacher affects the entire fraternity of teachers.

Several like-minded union bodies have come forward and joined hands regarding the matter. They have appealed to the state government to track down the two missing persons and save the girl.

All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union (AMMGSU) is of the view that, the tutor has violated the pure relationship of teacher-student, and that he should be put behind bars as soon as possible, under applicable laws.

Meanwhile, the SP of Manipur suspects that both the people have left the state. However, investigation and search is still on by the police.
