IMPHAL: At Lilong Bridge along national highway 102, about 11 kilometres from Imphal, three shots were fired at police officers from Manipur  as they performed frisking and checking duties. The shooters were identified 3 young man who were inside a car.

The incident happened late on Wednesday, April 5. The automobile accelerated towards Imphal, the capital of Manipur, after attacking the police officers. 

However, the Manipur police stated on Thursday that no casualties were reported in the attack. The Manipur police commando teams from the Singjamei police station, Lamsang police, and Toupokpi police outpost engaged in a high-speed pursuit to apprehend the attackers after the firing incident. 

The attackers were finally subdued by the Manipur police commando units. On Wednesday at 11.15 p.m., three youngsters were taken into custody in the Maibam Leikai neighbourhood near Manipur University. 

From them, one.32 revolver with three live rounds of ammo and an equal number of empty cartridges was found. Thokchomg Gyanendra alias Benjon (26), Ingudam Denny (23) and Augsta are the names of the people that were detained (23). 

Two alleged drug smugglers were detained by Manipur police and Assam Rifles troopers working with the NAB, who also found 6 kg of brown sugar. According to officials, the value of the seized brown sugar shipment on the international market is believed to be over Rs 12 crore. 

Throughout various operations over the last 24 hours, drug smugglers from Burma were apprehended and their drugs were seized. In response to a tip, a team from the NAB and the Imphal police station in Manipur detained two individuals who were in possession of illegal drugs and were driving a Bolero and a Maruti Alto.

They were detained in the area of Grace Lodge at Dewlahland in Imphal. According to a statement from the Manipur home department, the team recovered a carry bag containing six transparent polythene packets of brown sugar that together weighed 3.033 kg. 

The NAB filed a complaint against the pair under the ND&PS Act.
