Imphal: In a discussion on the 'Imposition of School Monthly Fees by Government During Lockdown' held at Imphal, the parents of the students in Manipur decided not to pay monthly school fees during the lockdown period, until and unless the government clarifies the same.
The discussion was held at the conference hall of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) headquarters in Dhanamanjuri University campus, Imphal. The discussion, which was held on Saturday, was organised by AMSU and All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (AMSGO).
Earlier on Tuesday, the Manipur Education department issued an order that 30 percent of tuition fees should be collected from the parents from April 2020. The order instructs all the private and aided schools of the state to collect the fees.
The resolution, which came out after the meeting on Saturday also stated that the school administration should immediately stop asking for school fees. The meeting further urged the school administrations to release the appropriate monthly salary of the teachers. They have decided to urge the government to form a Regulation Act under the Manipur Private Schools (Registration and Regulation) Act of 2017 private hostels and boarding.
The AMSU further requested the people of Manipur to support the movement, which is taken up for the betterment of the state's students.
The meeting was attended by the president of AMSU, Peter Laishram; advisor of AMSU, Thokchom Suresh; and secretary of AMSGO, S Sumati as the presidium members. The parents of students studying in private, missionary, aided, and CBSE schools also attended the meeting.
