IMPHAL: In a recent crackdown, Manipur police have successfully apprehended five individuals suspected of engaging in drug trafficking activities within the Imphal West district. The operation, carried out through thorough frisking and checking, led to the seizure of significant evidence linking the suspects to illegal drug trade.

Acting on a credible tip-off, a specialized team from the Singjamei police station Commandos strategically positioned themselves at the western approach of the Singjamei Bridge in Imphal West district around 11 pm on a Wednesday. Swiftly and effectively, the police team managed to intercept and overpower the suspects, ensuring a safe and controlled operation.

From the possession of the apprehended individuals, the police recovered a loaded .32 pistol containing a live round, a substantial amount of cash totaling Rs 3.5 lakh, and a vehicle described as a black Creta without any visible registration number. Additionally, two bags, seven mobile phones, and two loose vehicle number plates were seized as potential evidence. Disturbingly, the suspects were also found to be in possession of three bottles of CODEDYL-T, each containing 100ml and including Codeine Phosphate 10 mg.

The arrested suspects, hailing from the Thoubal district of Manipur, have been identified as Pangambam Chingkhomba Meitei (28), Yumkhaibam Moshin (24), Md Mehtab (30), Maibam Sharukh Khan (28), and Chingakham Sunder Singh (31). Following the successful operation, the Manipur police handed over both the arrested individuals and the seized items to the Singjamei police station. A case has been promptly registered, demonstrating the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating this matter. This intervention is likely to disrupt the illegal drug trade network and contribute to maintaining law and order in the area.

This operation signifies the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating the pervasive issue of drug trafficking. It also reflects the critical role that timely and accurate information sharing plays in the success of such operations. The coordinated action of the Manipur police serves as a deterrent to potential drug traders and reinforces the commitment of the authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
