IMPHAL: A member of the Kuki National Front (Nehlun), a non-SoO organisation, has been detained in the Churachandpur district of Manipur's Selbuhjang hamlet.

As per sources, Seiminlal Dimngel, aka Lalboi, aka Michael, 35, the son of Paokhohao Dimngel of Saijang village, was the arrested cadre, and he was engaged in extortion activities in the Saikul region. On Saturday at around 7:30 p.m., a Churachandpur police unit made the arrest.

According to police sources, a team from Sangaikot Police Station led by SI T Jangkholal Haokip conducted search operations on Saturday evening based on certain information about the presence of one KNF (N) cadre in Selbuhjang village with the goal of carrying out prejudicial acts.

According to police sources, one suspect was apprehended after two hours of searching, and during questioning, he admitted that he is a KNF member in good standing (N).

He also revealed that he and 18 other people joined the group in July 2022 through Henkholen Kipgen, also known as James Kipgen, the self-proclaimed KNF chairman (N). The cadre admitted about delivering demand letters to local business owners and shop owners during the course of the investigation.

Dimngel was detained, and a case was filed under sections 400 and 384 of the Indian Criminal Code as a result of his testimony. According to sources, he was later turned over to the Churachandpur police station for additional inquiry.

The KNF (N) cadre was apprehended, taken before Churachandpur's Chief Judicial Magistrate, and given a police remand until March 2, 2023.

At Thangmeiband, close to the Manipur legislative assembly in Imphal, a massive explosive device detonated. The explosion happened in Imphal, Manipur, late on Sunday night. An official source reported that a labourer was hurt in the explosive detonation.

A hand grenade was thrown towards the residence gate of an assistant engineer for the Manipur public works department at Thangmeiband Muchi Khul Maisnam Leikai, which is around 800 yards from the state assembly, by unidentified individuals riding two-wheelers.
