A revelation was made by Manipur CM, N Biren Singh on 30th of December regarding the number of narcotics cases registered in 2022. The list has been long this year with too many seizures and arrests made by the department. 

Drugs worth Rs 1,228 crore as per the international market were recovered from smugglers, and around 703 people got apprehended by the cops in relation with the cases. 

2022 has probably registered the highest number of complaints with the number coming up at 497. A constant war against drugs has been going on in the state of Manipur from the beginning of this year. 

However, CM N Biren stated that 500 kg of brown sugar and 560 kg of opium and heroin were among the seized drugs. 1,780 acres of illegal poppy plantation were tracked and destroyed by the department. 

It is worth mentioning that, the ratio of poppy cultivation has declined this year quite evidently. In 2021, the illegal plantation was carried out on 6,742 acres of land, whereas the number has decreased to 1,118 acres this year. The information was revealed through a survey in 2022. 

The state administration has managed to partially eradicate the issue through varied measure,continuous efforts and public cooperation, asserted Biren. 

Furthermore, the CM claimed that Manipur government will not lay back when it comes to demolishing smuggled cases in the state. The state government has included more forces in order to strengthen the 'War On Drugs' and combat the issue.

In the latest meeting chaired by the CM, security agencies such as Assam Rifles, NIA, NCB, NAB and Home Department participated and discussed issues and strategies to fight drug menace in the state. The meeting was held in CM's secretariat in Imphal. 

On Monday, a joint team of Imphal East police and NAB in collaboration with forest department and BSF initiated a drive against poppy cultivation in NP Khullen and B Gamnom hill range. An area of 30 acres were destroyed by the joint team.
