IMPHAL: In a significant acknowledgment of journalistic excellence, the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) in Manipur has unveiled the winners of the State Journalist Awards 2023. The awards, spanning seven distinct categories, were announced following a meticulous evaluation by a panel of judges. The panel scrutinized press and video clippings submitted by journalists, each nominated by their respective editors. The criteria for selection were centered on objectivity and the use of authentic sources.

Robinson Wahengbam, a dedicated staff reporter at Sanaleibak Daily, has been bestowed with the honor in the rural reporting category. Meanwhile, the public health and hygiene reporting category accolade went to Taorem Bishwajit Singh, a skilled sub-editor at Sanaleibak Daily.

Khairibam Yaiphaba Meitei, a proficient staff reporter at TOM TV, received recognition for reporting with a special emphasis on women and children. Asem Chandrashekhwor Singh, serving as a sub-editor at Sanaleibak Daily, is set to receive the State Journalist Award for his exceptional work in sports reporting.

Maibam Kenedy Singh, another accomplished staff reporter at Sanaleibak Daily, is poised to be honored in two distinct categories—reporting on art and culture, and parliamentary reporting. The prestigious award for reporting on science and technology will be presented to Moirangthem Khagemba Meetei, a dedicated staff reporter at Sanaleibak Daily.

However, it was highlighted in the official statement that for the year 2023, the judges opted not to nominate anyone for the 'Best Editor Award on National Integration & Communal Harmony' category. This decision was made due to the presence of only one entry, resulting in a lack of competition.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on National Press Day Observation, set in the esteemed Durbar Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on November 16. This event promises to be a celebration of journalistic prowess, recognizing the significant contributions of these outstanding individuals in shaping public discourse across diverse domains.

The Manipur State Journalist Awards 2023 stand as a testament to the dedication and skill exhibited by journalists, showcasing the pivotal role media plays in disseminating information and fostering societal awareness. Join the celebration on November 16, as these deserving awardees are honored for their exceptional contributions to the field of journalism.
