Tripura : Suspected Smuggler Shot In Head By BSF
AGARTALA : An incident took place on 3rd January in the evening hours, where BSF shot a suspected smuggler in Tripura. As per sources, the smuggler attempted to smuggle illicit items in Bangladesh.
The accused has been identified as Babul Mia and he was shot by the BSF at Rahimpur area. According to reports, the BSF personnel was on duty when the episode occurred.
He spotted Babul Mia trying to transfer some illegal substances through the international border. He was shot in his head. He collapsed in the ground and was taken to the Boxanagar Social Health Center by the locals.
Babul Mia was bleeding heavily on his way, however he was referred to GB Pant hospital by the doctors. He is the husband of Ahid Mia, a resident of Rahimpur near to the international border.
While explaining the entire situation, it came to light that initially Babul Mia was stopped by the BSF personnel. Later his wife along with few other women dragged two women constables near the border.
As the situation could not be controlled with words, the BSF on duty open fired and shot the accused in his head straight.
Contrary to this story, Babul Mia's brother in law asserted that, someone fooled the victim intentionally to get get outside of his residence and shot him.
It is not new a fact that, apart from Tripura, several parts of Manipur are engaged in smuggling of varied contraband items. Many such cases came up in 2022 as well. The government has beefed up the security, police checking in the region to eliminate this issue.
A day prior to this incident, a 40 year old woman along with her partner who is a young boy got arrested by the police. The duo was nabbed with 422 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 50 lakh as per the international market rate.
Both the accused has been put under police custody for interrogation and further investigation until 10th of January 2023. This was reportedly the first case of drugs in 2023 and they charged under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. The woman has been identified as Sesant Rasejar aka Petru and the youth as Nurul Islam.
