Manipur Tourist Spots Dressing Afresh; CM Claims Peace in the State

NAMBOL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that his government had been leaving no stone unturned to bring positive change in the state.

In his address at a function in Nambol organized to celebrate the World Tourism Day on Tuesday, he maintained that the future of the north eastern state would depend on the tourism sector.

The Chief Minister maintained that the government was developing more tourist circuits across the state to attract the tourists from home and abroad.

These include Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou, Cultural Centre at Behiang, the 120 feet tall Sagol Kangjei statue at Marjing, Heritage site at Makhel, Rani Gaidinliu Museum apart from a number of amusement parks at various places.

According to him, the Kangkhui and Tharon caves would be opened up for the tourists very soon. The government was building a 5 star hotel at the erstwhile High Court complex in partnership with Tata group, he said.

The government would organise the Chief Minister's Sagol Kangjei Tournament as part of the Sangai Festival 2022, said the Chief Minister. He added that the event would promote 'Sagol Kangjei' and encourage players of the traditional polo game and pony breeders.

He further highlighted the initiatives to promote tourism during the last 5 years with better air and surface connectivity.

The Chief Minister heaped praise on Narendra Modi saying that the Prime Minister has transformed the entire north eastern region.

He said that North East is no longer a restive region which was why, the Centre has recently withdrawn special allowance for the bureaucrats posted in the region.

"The Manipur Government had recently struck deal with Samsung Company for setting up a world class training facility for sportsmen," he said.

Notably, a virtual training zone would be developed for football, hockey, boxing, judo, badminton and archery.

Education minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, who also attended the event urged the people to make tourism as a vehicle for sustainable development in the state.

Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam along with MLAs Y Radheshyam, Sapam Kunjakeswor, LDA chairman M Asnikumar were prominent among those who attended the programme.
