IMPHAL: A grim incident unfolded in Manipur's Kakching district on Monday as the lifeless body of an unidentified man was retrieved from a pond here. The incident took place in the Sekmaijing Maning Leikai area where the corpse was found with triple bullet wounds and bruised marks on the back.

The victim who is unnamed has a tattoo on his right arm. Yumlembam Mina, Vice President of the Sekamijing Maning Leikai Meira Paibis, has suggested that the man might have met his demise elsewhere, with his body subsequently discarded in the local pond during the early hours of Monday.

Local authorities have reached out to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased individual and have initiated a murder investigation.

Meanwhile in other news, in a heartbreaking development, the dead body of a young child was recovered from a drain in the Cachar district of Assam. The father of the child was arrested in relation to the incident after the mother had filed a complaint against her husband. On Sunday evening, the dead body was recovered from a drain in the Udharbong locality. Later the body was identified as that of Ayesha and was sent for post-mortem procedures to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

The mother of the child, Farida, mentioned that the father Najir Uddin Laskar, a resident of the Lathigram village often assaulted her as well as their daughter. He also mentioned that she was beaten up mercilessly on Thursday before she left for her mother’s home. She later came to know that their 6-year-old daughter Ayesha was being sold off by Najir Uddin Laskar. When she got back home and questioned him regarding the same, she did not have any reply.

Farida later lodged a complaint regarding the development with the local police. The police had already arrested Najir Uddin Laskar on Friday based on the complaint filed by his wife and after the recovery of the dead body she demanded capital punishment for him, The Court granted a three-day remand for the accused as the police continue their investigation into the matter.
