Imphal: An army camp was attacked by militants on Wednesday in Churachandpur district of Manipur. The army camp is situated at Theigothang village near the Indo-Myanmar border.

According to sources, the B-Company of 6 Sikh Light Infantry housed at the army camp was attacked by the militants during wee hours of the day with bombs and machine guns.

In retaliation, the army used mortars and machine guns, thereby forcing the militants to retreat. However, there were no casualties in the gunfight, sources said.

The attack seems to be a repercussion of the Independence Day celebrations across the state despite several militant organizations calling for a boycott of the celebrations.

Independence Day was celebrated across Manipur with CM N Biren Singh attending the programme at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles ground as chief guest.
