New Delhi: A team of 12 naval divers and 2 hydrographers (survey sailors) have been rushed to Imphal to join the ongoing search operation for three missing people.
The trio went missing after their boat with 12 people capsized during a storm in the reservoir of Mapithel dam in Kamjong district of Manipur on Sunday.
“Based on request from Manipur Government, a team of 12 Naval divers and 2 hydrographers were airlifted from Visakhapatnam by an IAF aircraft to Imphal on Tuesday late evening,” said a government official.
The team will join the NDRF team and civil authorities in locating three missing personnel. The naval diving team is carrying necessary diving equipment including portable side scan sonar for locating objects underwater and commenced search operation today. Two boats with 12 picnickers on board had sank at Mapithel Dam and three of them could not be traced.
