Residents followed strict rules during lockdown to contain spread of COVID-19 in Manipur

GUWAHATI: Residents of Manipur cooperated with authorities and followed lockdown rules to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the region. Lakhs of people were screened at eight entry points in the state.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23 has now recovered. With this she becomes the first patient from the North East to have recovered fully. She tested negative for the virus on April 4.

The woman who had a travel history to the UK was undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

"Its a huge achievement for the whole medical department in general and the doctors and staff of JNIMS in particular," said State Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar Singh.

She will be given counselling so that her mental stress can be taken care of as she has gone through many days of isolation.

The second patient in the state is a man who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi has tested positive for coronavirus.

Manipur government has also decided to transfer a financial assistance of Rs.2000 from the CM's COVID-19 RELIEF FUND to the Bank accounts of each person who are stranded outside the State during the lockdown.
