Schools in Manipur to Remain Closed till July 8, Informs Education Department

IMPHAL: The state government of Manipur decided to postpone the start of regular classed at all state schools until July 8 because the violent situation there is still tight. Police said on Thursday that while most districts are mostly calm, there have been intermittent shooting incidents during the previous 24 hours in some areas.

Since May 3, at than 130 people have died, and the opposition is calling for the state to be placed under president's rule. Around 36,000 security personnel have been deployed by the government in the state, while 40 IPS officers are also keeping an eye on the situation in Manipur.

Akhilesh Prasad Singh, the president of the Congress in Bihar, demanded that Manipur's chief minister stand down or faces being ousted by the BJP if he doesn't on Friday, even as N Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, put an end to rumours of his resignation due to the ongoing civil disturbances in the state.

The Manipur government earlier today extended the state's ban on internet services for an additional five days, through Wednesday, July 5. This action was taken in response to worries that antisocial individuals would be abusing social media platforms, which could have detrimental effects on the state's law and order situation.

The Chief Minister and 20 MLAs left his house with the intention of meeting the Governor, but they were forced to turn around due to the insurmountable crowd. A number of ministers eventually appeared to address the collected crowd, with the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) serving as their leader.

The resignation letter that had been prepared to be submitted to the Governor was read aloud by Minister Susidro Metitei. Then several of the women in the audience were given the paper, and they started torn it apart.
