GUWAHATI: Seuti Films Production, a Manipur-based movie production firm, has started the groundwork for its latest creation "Mirabai Chanu". The registration of the film's title has been completed with the Film Forum Manipur (FFM).

The biopic is about the life of Tokyo 2020 fame Mirabai Chanu who bagged silver in the 49kg category in women's weightlifting on July 24, and successfully opened India's first medal tally.

The registration was done at the Lamphelpat office of the Film Forum Manipur. Forum chairman S Mangoljao, writer of the film Manaobi MM and director OC Meira among others were present. The forum's executive committee wished Seuti Films Production a grand success in its venture and vowed to extend its support to the biopic's creation.

It is pertinent to mention that the FFM has issued a statement and said it has taken a decision that any film production company of outside Manipur must obtain prior permission from the forum to make movies related to the life of noted persons and other stories portraying the art and culture of Manipur.

Born on August 8, 1994 in Nongpok Kakching in Manipur, Mirabai Chanu (or Saikhom Mirabai Chanu) has won world championships and many medals at the commonwealth games. She is a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award. She was also awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award by the Government of India in 2018.

As per Chanu, she is a follower of Hinduism and Sanamahism. Her family realised her strength when she was just 12 years old. Carrying a huge bundle of firewood to home was an easy task for her when her elder brother found it hard to even pick it up. Chanu trained at the Sports Academy in Manipur. She hitched rides with truck drivers carrying sand. After winning the Olympic medal, she invited the truck drivers to offer her gratitude and touched their feet as a sign of respect.
