Amit Shah to Visit Moreh on the Myanmar Border to Assess Security Measures
IMPHAL: According to Army sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will travel to Moreh in the Tengnoupal district of Manipur on Wednesday morning to examine the security arrangements in place and meet with Kuki civil society organisations.
Various organisations will meet with Shah, who arrived in Imphal on a flight on Monday night, in the Kangpokpi district in the afternoon, according to reports.
Officials added that overnight reports from Sugnu in the Kakching region indicated that there had been gunfights between insurgents and security troops.
“Firing also took place at Sagolmang in Imphal East where a civilian was injured in an attack by militants,” they said.
Shah met with a variety of Kuki and Meitei leaders as well as top security officials on Tuesday as part of his mission to mediate a permanent peace in the unrest-ridden state in an effort to find a resolution to the recent ethnic violence that has wracked the region. Evening meetings with all parties were also held by him.
In addition to Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka, Shah is travelling with Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
In order to analyze the situation, reports claim that as soon as he arrived in the state, he presided over a meeting with the chief minister, ministers, top leaders, and bureaucrats. The home minister has multiple rounds of negotiations planned throughout his stay in the state through June 1st.
Amit Shah confirmed plans to visit Manipur earlier this week while on a visit to Assam, a state that borders the northeastern state. The conflict between the local communities and a great deal of commotion were recent incidents in Manipur. The Home Minister had just arrived in Imphal for a four-day tour to Manipur when the meeting was held, a day after fresh violence rocked the northeastern State.
The meeting's goals were to assess the situation in Manipur and create fresh strategies for returning the nation to normalcy. In the midst of this, the Army mobilized three columns on Sunday to set up numerous Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) and apprehend the troublemakers ahead of Amit Shah's visit, in response to specific intelligence about armed miscreants venturing out with the intention of carrying out premeditated attacks on security forces close to the City Convention Centre in Imphal East.
Assam Rifles provided protection for the nearly 2,000 Meitei villagers who were transported from Serou to the Pangaltabi relief camp during a significant evacuation drive that was coordinated by the Army and Assam Rifles with the police, State Administration, and Civil Society Organisations.
