Imphal: The historic Manipur Rajbari at Shilong in
Meghalaya, which was earlier a home to the royal family from the state, will
now be transformed into a state Bhawan.
This was informed by Manipur chief minister Biren Singh on Friday.
Manipur CM Biren Singh said: "The historic Manipur Rajbari at Shilong belonged to the Maharaja of Manipur & it was here that Maharaja Bodhachandra stayed during the signing the Manipur Merger Agreement to Dominion of India on Sept 1949. Sadly, the plot no longer belonged to the Royal family of Manipur."
CM Biren Singh informed that the plot of land located at Redlands in Shillong's Laitumkhrah area has been handed over to the Manipur Government after a "series of negotiations".
"However, the plot measuring 1.93 acres at Redlands, Laitumkhrah, has now been allotted to the Government of Manipur after series of negotiations. The State Govt. has now decided to build a Manipur Bhavan on this plot. I thank the Govt. of Meghalaya for their cooperation," added CM Biren Singh.
