Two moderate intensity earthquakes hit Manipur

One hit the state at 6.54 AM, while the other was felt at 10.19 AM

Imphal: Two earthquakes measuring 4.0 and 2.8 magnitude hit Manipur on Saturday. A quake measuring 2.8 magnitude on the Richter scale was felt in Manipur's Senapati area. The tremor was felt around 6.54 AM at a depth of 10 KM.

The second earthquake was slightly higher in magnitude. It was 4.0 on the Richter scale and jolted Manipur at around 10.19 AM at a depth of 30 KM.

The National Centre for Seismology shared the information via Twitter.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 21-11-2020, 10:19:36 IST, Lat: 24.92 & Long: 94.88, Depth: 30 Km ,Location: 40km E of Ukhrul, Manipur, India."

No casualty or loss of property has been reported due to the earthquakes.

Earlier last week, an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude jolted Mizoram. The Northeast has been experiencing minor quakes since the last few months. The region falls under seismic Zone 5, which covers the high-risk areas for earthquakes.
