SHILLONG: A few residents of Umlaper village, which falls under Block-II, alleged that on Monday night, three Khasi youths of the village was assaulted by Assam police. Out of the three assaulted by Assam police, two of them were seriously injured and were later shifted to Bhoirymbong CHC.

The residents informed that the incident happened at around 7 pm when these Khasi youths were returning from Mawlasnai village. However, upon reaching the area, police from Ulukunchi and those staying temporarily at IB of Assam which is located at Umlaper village, allegedly detained and harrassed the youths, which ultimately lead to the assault.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) central body has directed the KSU Eastern Border area to head to Umlaper village. According to sources, residents of Umlaper village, in an act of retaliation, have set ablaze the camp of Assam police. However, this information is yet to be ascertained by the police from both Meghalaya and Assam.
