SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Vincent H Pala on Friday said that the five Congress legislators who supported the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition without the approval of the AICC will be suspended.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting to discuss the issue, Pala said, "I can boldly say that the High Command is not in favour of five MLAs joining the MDA, when I discussed with them over phone. So definitely they will take action."

Informing that the AICC too will be having a meeting on the issue, the MPCC president said that most likely the MLAs may be suspended.

"They will be suspended and a show-cause notice will be given to them as to why they should not expelled because of joining the MDA," Pala said.

He also informed that few leaders at the meeting suggested that the party take strong action against the MLAs, since the ideology of the Congress cannot be compromised.

There are others who said that the Congress should think properly how to evolve with whom it works.

Two of the MLAs who joined the coalition Government, Mayralborn Syiem and Mohendro Rapsang, who were present in the meeting, suggested that time be given to them to tell their side of the story.

"Mayralborn said that if we (Congress) can work together in Maharashtra with the Shiv Sena, why not in Meghalaya with the BJP," Pala added.
